Old flag of Sulu depicted on"Glorias Nacionales ", an old spanish book of the 19th century. The flag was captured by the troops of Spain in february 28, 1851at the fort of the Sultan, in Jolo'. Note who the half drawing on the hoist is rub out.
Cover of a book on Sulu language (bahasa sug ) dated 1914.
The image on the cover has the following description : "Design on moro flag ".
The drawing seems like a shield (following a western interpretation ) but in reality it is upside-down and it represents the Mecca Door or maybe the Istana, or Royal Palace.
The right way to show the design on the cover of the old book on Sulu Language.

On an old book of the last century there is a description of a flag raised on the boats by moros * : "... a black and yellow flag....." .
Yellow is one of the traditional colors of the area of Sulu, Brunei , Borneo and Mindanao, black color is not so common on thOse flags , probably was a yellow flag bordered of black.
